The Maximum Cost

The Government sets the price of an MOT. It’s currently set at £54.85.

Sometimes your car will need work done to pass the MOT test, the MOT garage should tell you this in advance.

It’s best to agree a price before any work is done. Once the work is compleated and provided it’s within time you should not be charged again for a retest.

What to do if you lose an MOT certificate

First of all, it is important that you keep all your car’s paperwork in a safe place. However if you do find that you have lost your MOT certificate but it’s still valid, you don’t need to get another test.

Almost any MOT testing station can issue a new one, provided you have the car’s V5.

The cost should be around £10.
